UWCSEA welcomes scholars from across the world

Welcoming scholars to UWCSEA not only benefits individuals with a world-class education and opportunities to access post-secondary education that would not otherwise be available to them, such as the Davis UWC Scholar Program. It also benefits the whole community, as the scholars bring not only great diversity but also play an integral part in the day-to-day College life. Living and learning with scholarship students provides a deeper understanding of specific nations, cultures and global issues than can be gleaned from a textbook or even from an expedition or field trip.

At the start of 2015, UWCSEA welcomed 45 new scholars to the boarding houses, our largest intake of new scholars to-date. At present there are 50 countries represented by the scholars at UWCSEA, of which 63% are female. Supporting the College’s mission to bring together different cultures, this year some of the new scholars came from 15 countries new to the scholarship programme. To help add to the diversity, there are also scholars who joined us in Grade 8, Grade 9 and Grade 10FIB, as well as Grade 11.

This year, there are 102 scholars receiving a UWC education thanks to the UWCSEA community. 93 of these scholars are studying at UWCSEA, while the other nine scholars are at

  • UWC Costa Rica (Singapore UWC National Committee selected-scholar)
  • Pearson College UWC (Singapore UWC National Committee selected-scholar)
  • UWC of Mostar (two students)
  • UWC Adriatic (Singapore UWC National Committee selected-scholar)
  • Waterford Kamhlaba UWC (two students, funded by UWCSEA staff)
  • UWC Mahindra (two students, funded by UWCSEA staff)

It is thanks to the commitment of our community that we are able to maintain and develop the scholarship programme each year.
