Rachelle Gaa, Dover parent and PACE Local Outreach Coordinator
Three regular parent volunteers at the HCA Day Hospice, through the PACE Local Outreach programme, were recently interviewed in Lianhe Wanbao, a Singapore Chinese afternoon newspaper published daily by Singapore Press Holdings. The newspaper ran a series of detailed interviews of 'good deeds' (inspiring individuals) in October 2017 as part of SõngHè Rice's 'Good Man, Good Deeds, Good Rice' campaign. In conjunction with the interview, our parent volunteers were asked to choose from a selected list of beneficiaries to receive 500 kg of rice and oil from SõngHè Rice. We chose Willing Hearts Soup Kitchen in Geylang as our beneficiary; Willing Hearts is regularly visited by the Grade 5 students from UWCSEA East.
We are honoured and grateful to SõngHè and Lianhe Wanbao for allowing us participate in this 'spread the kindness' campaign. We are likewise grateful to HCA Day Hospice for endorsing us for the interview and most especially for always welcoming us in their centre to serve and spend time with these lovely patients. PACE Local Outreach is an opportunity for UWCSEA parents to discover the rewards of providing direct, hands-on service to those in need here in Singapore.
The Parents’ Action for Community and Education (PACE) is a volunteer parent-led organisation that falls under the Service umbrella of the College, with many active members, and over 1500 supporters and friends who subscribe to our mailing list. PACE serves the UWCSEA community, across both campuses, via activities and events that provide both a social network and the opportunity to contribute.
