Dragons compete at FINA/Airweave Swimming World Cup - 21-22 October 2016

Four Dragons swimmers are set to dive in and compete with the world’s best swimmers at the FINA/airweave Swimming World Cup 2016 presented by Yakult, next week. The competition is being held in Singapore for the 10th year and this professional circuit will be expecting over 250 swimmers from more than 20 countries.

The 25m short course competition will witness top Olympic and World Championship medalists such as Alia Atkinson (Jamaica), Chad Le Clos (South Africa), Daiya Seto (Japan), Katinka Hosszú (Hungary), and Kyle Chalmers (Australia) swim their hearts out alongside Singapore’s very own athletes!

It will also witness 4 of our Dragons.  Many swimmers qualified, however just 7 swimmers managed to achieve the tough qualifying standard (600 FINA points) set by the Dragons coaching staff.  Georgina, Celia, Liam and Lachy will be in attendance this year but also making the entry requirements were Mikella, India and Enya who will unfortunately not swim.

Special mention must go to Georgina (14) who was chosen to swim for Australia at this year's competition.  This is a big honour and will give Georgie the chance to mingle with some of her heroes such as, Olympic gold medalist, Kyle Chalmers.  Georgie stated "I am happy to have the opportunity to compete for Australia, I know it is different to swimming at a major games but it is great to put on the green and gold swim cap, I am still young and inexperienced but will give it a good go."  Georgina hopes to make the final but at just 14 years old is also realistic and understands that this meet is more about experience and building goals for the future than winning.

The Dragons Swim Team and UWCSEA wish all the swimmers the best of luck, and would like to encourage as many supporters from the college to come and watch on 21 and 22 October.
